Holistic Therapy
My approach is compassionate, affirming, and empathetic.
My practice is integrative, so I utilize different theories to best serve your needs.
My relationship and connections with you are the cornerstone of my practice.
“When family, school, and society put so much emphasis on being perfect, strong, happy and well-adjusted, no surprise we conclude we have to be all those things to be loved, and grow up never knowing that to be vulnerable, messy, human, is lovable.”
Allyson Dinneen
I believe in creating a warm, nonjudgmental, safe space so you can show up authentically with all parts of yourself.
You will matter to me, affect me, and be seen by me—with all of the messiness of being human. I will cry with you and laugh with you. We will work together as companions and allies so you can be the author of your life.
I don’t believe suffering is unique to certain people. As a therapist, I am not exempt from emotional suffering, with the exception that I have some experience and training in this area. My work in therapy lets me know a little about what it feels like to be in your seat. I have experienced many dark corners that help me to sit with yours.
With a prior background in the medical field, I see well-being embodying both mental and physical health.
I am passionate about fostering mental health as part of our total well-being. It is a myth that therapy is only for people with mental illness. You can also work to have good mental health even with psychological challenges.
And you don’t have to have a serious mental illness or something “wrong” to see a psychotherapist. It just means you want to talk to someone other than your friends, family, or partner.
Chronic stress can impair brain structure and physical health. Poor mental health affects how we think, feel, behave, make decisions, relate to others, and function at work, school, and home. We know its symptoms also show up in our bodies (headaches, nausea, stomach ailments, heart disease, cancers, etc). Addressing mental health needs for everyone, especially young people, is critical as they develop social-emotional skills and self-image and learn to relate to peers.
It can be challenging to reach your fullest potential in life when you face oppression, injustice, othering, marginalization, forced migration, trauma, and living in white, dominant spaces. I will meet you where you are to unpack these stories and systems.
My lens is on what happened to you and your ancestors rather than what is wrong with you. This understanding will provide the beginning of healing. I honor how you engage with life for your survival and protection. We will explore the stories you tell about yourself and others that may be inaccurate or harmful. With proper support, you can rework these narratives and deepen your wellness. You can learn ways to integrate your experiences with coping skills to live a fuller, meaningful life.
